Amplid Rider Matti Kinnunen Wins the TTR Finnish Open at Tahko

More than 100 riders from Finland gathered last weekend for the TTR Finnish Open, all the way up at Tahko. Top names like Heikki Sorsa, Peetu Piiroinen, Matti Kinnunen and Risto Mattila pimped up the event with their appearance, ready to fight for US$ 10.000.- !

But pouring rain and gusty winds forced the organizers of the TTR Finnish Open to move the qualification heats from Friday to Saturday. The weather was slightly better on Saturday – still very windy but good enough for an informal jibbing contest. The field was absolutely stacked today as Scandinavia’s best jibbers were in attendance.

The course consisted of a rustic up-rail, some A-frame kind of log and a corner jump. A.R.C. rider Matti Kinnunen showed max creativity during the entire jam session and ended up on top of the podium.
Sunday sky cleared up and the slopestyle contest was under way. The top ten today is a pretty strong Who’s Who of snowboarding, with just a couple of the big names missing. Matti again took the top spot of the official slopestyle contest with his huge and perfectly sticked BS rodeos and also won the category “highest air”.

Coming in second place was Burton frontman Heikki Sorsa with a superhigh BS 360 over the corner, winning the “Best Trick Award”.

I am really stoked to win this contest, looking at all these big names who showed up“ stated a happy Matti Kinnunen after the contest. “I have been working a lot on my new board model which will be coming out next autumn and tried constantly new tricks throughout the entire season. Looks like this combination worked out great so far.”

The results of the Final Heat “Slopestyle”:

1.Matti Kinnunen
2.Heikki Sorsa
3.Aleksi Partanen
4.Miikka Hast
