Snow Surf Review: The Big Kahuna

The German brand led by Peter Bauer continues its rhythm of partial renewal of its range while keeping boards at least 2 years (carry over). This Big Kahuna is one of the new additions to the "Future Shapes" freeride range, made up of very playful quiver boards with names that are as evocative as ever. It's a wide board that imposes itself, with its 161cm length and 27.1 skate, and it's not surprising that it's aimed at big babies "over 90kg" according to Amplid ("100kg or more to find the fun" according to our testers) who want to float in the powder and carve without sticking out with their big feet.

Logically demanding for the less athletic, this is a board that offers an ideal flex distribution, maybe a little stiff in torsion, but that accepts presses, has a super pop, and is especially stable in landing. A real big powder gun, it is really versatile for its big rider audience, very pleasant on the edge, fluid to cut its turns while accepting the safe skidding.

This Big Kahuna is still a good boat that needs to have room rather than rely on its manoeuvrability in the tight forest, but it floats at the top and will be your best ally in the big powdery combos as well as on the wide boulevards.

A "dominant and efficient" board, which rides well in two feet and will make the happiness of the good sizes. Gringalets, go the other way.
