By the time the hectic winter season has ended and there's more time to invest into important R&D projects it's usually May. This year May in the northern Alps has been cold and wet which means conditions on Austria's Glaciers have been all-time!
By the middle of May it's likely that the Alps have experienced more than a few downpours of rain and summer-like days with temperatures in the mid 20s. So it's rare that you can find a snowpatch big enough to ride within walking distance of a main road. But then again, when you know your local mountains like Philip Toplitsch there are hundreds of possibilities.
