We went to town on this mother! The result is a next level freeride pack with enough storage for a long day in the backcountry, with easy access to essential equipment and integrated back protection… because doctors insist you need a spine and kidneys.
Our extensive research into Mayan Hieroglyphics told us that 27 litres is the optimum pack volume, so that’s what we went with. Inside it’s organised so you can easily find your shovel, probe or lip balm. Because goggles and cell phones don’t like water or scratchy materials we created special pockets for them too. Apparently water is the elixir of life and dehydration sucks, which is why the Codex is hydration pack compatible. On the outside there are straps for attaching a snowboard, skis and an ice axe, for hand-assisted ascents and that all important Guide look.
Back protection is something we’ve wanted in our packs for a long time. A special insert located behind the pack’s moulded back panel is made from a non-Newtonian material called Armourgel. This futuristic material flexes with your movements and comfortably hugs to your torso, but hardens instantaneously when impacted. Not only does the Codex backpack offer dependable protection, its fit and articulation are spot-on for that all-important unrestricted feel.
